Uruguay's only land boundaries is with Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, located to the north. It is bordered to the west of the Uruguay River and the south-west Creek Rio de la Plata, Argentina, where is located on the other side of these bodies of water, while in the south-east overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Uruguay has an area of approximately 176,000 km 2, the second smallest country in South America, after Suriname.
